Backstroke Elevation Drill Left Only Fins Only
Backstroke Elevation Drill Left Only Fins Only Let's keep building on your swimmer's progress. This is elevation drill for backstroke, left arm only. This drill will look very similar to our single-arm backstroke; however, we will be taking a look at how to take this to the next level. In this progression of the drill, we will only be using fins. An earlier version of this drill had us also using Volo Blades to help the swimmer feel the catch position. We will continue to emphasize all of the key points from the 1 Arm Backstroke series. In this drill, we will look closer at hyperextending the shoulder and really reach upward as high as we can go once the hand is directly over the shoulder. Here, the hand should pause for a quick second. Then our swimmer will return to a normal position and continue with the backstroke. We find this helps swimmers become more aware of their shoulder positioning during backstroke. To view the key points of this drill, check out the video below. Key Points: -Fins Only -Make Sure You Hyper Extend. -Steady Head -Adding one arm (recovery arm) -Nonstroking Arm is at your side. -Be Sure To Rotate. -Strong Kick From The Hips (Feet should be at the water) For a more detailed explanation of the drill and things we would look for, check out this video. https://youtu.be/Y_Ikh0vveQc Follow me on Instagram @coachmikeswim
