Balancing a cross-section: central Appalachians

Part of The Shear Zone Channel. Balanced cross-sections are important for developing understanding of complex structures like fold and thrust belts. Using an profile constructed by Gwinn (1964) for the Valley & Ridge of the central Appalachians, this video looks at how a cross-section can be modified to balance, using bed-length restoration.
