Looking for a little distraction :)? This banded movement mobilization is literally a distraction.....a Joint Distraction. Joint Distraction exercises use a resistance band to create a vector force that acts as a wedge to separate the joint surfaces from one another. This separation of the articulating surfaces provides more space for synovial fluid to fill the joint, reduce the amount of friction and allows for much more fluid motion. This video shows a great mobilization for releasing tension along our lateral line of connective tissue and associated musculature. Tissues from the outside of the ankle, up towards the lateral hip and thigh, and extending up the lateral trunk to under the shoulder are all gently stretched with this release. A Sustained Hold can be maintained and breathed into, or Paper Clipping can be performed by continuing to step in and out of more tension as demand in video.
