BED BACK BENDS In my previous post, I talked about how I immediately got a back spasm when I attempted to do a back bridge. All my doctors, physiotherapists, yoga teachers, calisthenics and handstand teachers told me that back bends were not suitable for me. Not deterred, I did this ‘bed exercise’ every night for a 9 months and when I tried again to do a back bridge I could do it just like that. I only did 5 reps every night, which took me about 1 minute before bed. A side benefit was that it helped me sleep better. When I first started, only my head was off the bed and I had to grab my legs or bed sheets to get up. As I got better, I edged out a bit more till the corner of the bed was around my shoulder blades and I could get up without assistance I did not try to go further down as the weight would have pulled me down to the floor. Try it consistently and you will be surprised at how you can easily increase your back flexibility with just one minute a day, after a few months.
