Bioforge 00- Building Bioforge
Welcome to Bioforge Educator Lab, a 7th grade life science learning hub built for rigorous, creative, place-based, NGSS-aligned science learning. This brief video overview introduces the foundation of the Bioforge project: a classroom design system where students do more than memorize vocabulary or complete disconnected activities. Instead, they investigate phenomena, build and revise models, use evidence, manage cognitive load, and learn science as a way of making sense of the living world. Bioforge is designed around a simple belief: Science should be concrete, coherent, beautiful, useful, and intellectually serious. In this overview, you’ll see the major ideas behind the project, including: NGSS three-dimensional learning phenomena-driven instruction sense-making over memorization visual modeling and scientific sketching cognitive scaffolding for middle school learners embedded Habits of Mind place-based and Alaska-relevant learning classroom routines that support focus, curiosity, and evidence-based thinking This is the starting point: the lab doors opening, the forge lighting, and the first blueprint for a life science course built around curiosity, structure, and actual student thinking. Bioforge Educator Lab is for teachers, students, families, and curriculum-minded humans who want middle school science to feel alive without turning into glitter-covered chaos.
