Blends Chart - Call & Response
Tapping this chart daily helps children attach the sounds to the letters and move that into their long-term memory. Taking a few minutes a day to tap the Blends Chart for several weeks helps the child to know what two letters go with common initial and ending blends plus the H Brothers - sh, ch, th, ph, wh. Blends are two different sounds (not one like the H-brothers) but they often are said so quickly that it is hard for a young child or a struggling reader to segment them. When they learn that /bl/ in their spoken language attaches to B L they develop the letter-sound correspondence which is the goal. #tapthechart #spellingtoread After you tap the BLENDS Chart call & response for a week or more and the child seems to have all of the correct sounds, go the video BLENDS CHART- All Together. That step lets them practice with going straight through on their own. After they can do that with ease and want another challenge, tap the chart from the bottom to the top (out of order). To get more ideas about how to make chart tapping more challenging watch this video https://youtu.be/1HWHQhB6H5s Children also need to tap the other letter-sound combinations.
