Brickton Valley #54 is a 4-6-0 Ten Wheeler that was built in 1907 for the Las Vegas & Tonopah Railroad as #7. In December of 1919 the San Diego & Arizona (SD&A) acquired #7 & was renumbered to 24. 54 was used on the “impossible Railroad” & was scrapped in August of 1940. #54 was built with 57in (1448mm) drivers but that was later modified with much larger 63 inch drivers. She has a tractive effort of 34,200 Ibs. The “impossible Railroad” was completed on November 15, 1919. It had 17 tunnels, 20 trestles including the famous Goat Canyon Trestle which was built through the Carrillo Gorge. The line suffered frequent washouts, fires leading to the takeover by the Southern Pacific (SP) in 1933.
