Buchla 251e does some complex polyrhythms
The Buchla 251e allows you to dial in any note length from 1/1 to 1/64. Yes! You can specify a note length of 1/27! Here I am using some odd numbered note lengths (1/3 and 1/5) to create some polyrhythms. With careful adding of your fractions you could get even more complex rhythms by varying the note lengths, but I think a 2/3/5/8 polyrhythm is about as complex as things can get before it just sounds like rhythm salad. When using these odd numbered note lengths, the 251e does tend to fall out of time after some time, and clocking it over MIDI is worse. I was thus unable to recruit the 252e to make something even more complex. These rhythms CANNOT be achieved on the 252e, the the rings on the 252e lock you into a certain number of beats for each ring. With the 251e, you can specify any length (metre) for your bar, which really makes the 251e a more versatile polyrhythm composer than the 252e.
