Two years ago, we removed a small patch of invasive buckthorn and replanted with native shrub and tree species. We laid down wood chips and created habitat piles out of the woody debris to suppress new growth. Berries are put into a separate bin and allowed to rot right on site.
Common and glossy buckthorn are European species that can easily take over native species.
