Bye-bye buckthorn!
April 13-17, 2026 How Otter Pond will rise with snow melt is a pleasant project this time of year. The shrieking sandhill cranes are back, along with numerous songbirds flitting in the understorey and streaking through the yard. Pussy willows are opening and catkins are drifting. Two years ago I discovered, and learned about, buckthorn on the property. It's an invasive that thoroughly dominates, depressing other members of a woodlot. I have four buckthorns on the property and am determined to diminish their authority. Insley and I live together on forty-acres of forest and bog, sharing frequent moments of unexpected wonder. Life is unhurried and stress free and in-the-moment, with uninterrupted time to think, time to observe the clamorous wildlife and the flamboyant spectacles of seasons in transition. ––– Contents of episode 394 ––– 00:00 Intro 01:05 Monday April 13, 2026 - Checking Otter Pond 04:17 Tuesday April 14 05:16 Barber chair 09:26 Wednesday April 15 11:21 Friday April 17 - Bye-bye buckthorn 18:34 From the vault #lifeinthemoment #unhurriedlife
