2v2 SSG
2v2 Split Goals - Can they use the overload? Created via @SportSessionPlanner Organisation • Area: 20x20 square • Two small goals positioned near each corner on opposite sides • 2v2 inside the area • 1 target player positioned between each pair of goals Set up: • Players rotate after each game • 3 games total, keep cumulative score Objective Attacking Team: ⇢ Recognise when to combine directly or use the target player to create overloads and scoring opportunities. Defending Team: ⇢ Press quickly, deny central access, and block passing lanes into targets. Practice: • Teams play 2v2 inside the area. Team in possession may: • Attack directly • Or use the target player to create a 2(+1)v2 overload • Players attempt to score in either goal on the attacking side. If possession changes: • Immediate transition Participation Adaptation To maximise involvement: ◍ Duplicate areas if numbers increase ◍ Rotate target players regularly ◍ Use short games to maintain intensity Gamified Scoring ▸ Standard goal = 1 point ▸ Goal after target combination = 2 points ▸ Bonus for scoring within transition moments Progression 1: Directional Finish Teams must: ⇢ Use opposite-side goal after target combination Encourages: ⇢ Switching play ⇢ Repositioning defenders Progression 2: Limited Support Time Target player: ⇢ Maximum 2-touch ⇢ Or must play first time Forces: • Better support angles • Faster decision-making Progression 3: Player-Led Solutions Players create their own attacking combinations: • Wall passes • Rotations • Double movements • Third-player runs Challenge teams to discover: ⇢ Different ways to access goals ⇢ Different ways to manipulate defenders Teaching the “Why” Read the Picture ⇢ “When is the overload actually useful?” ⇢ “What are the defenders protecting?” Purpose in the Action ⇢ “Are we using the target to escape pressure or just because they’re available?” Change the Rhythm ⇢ “When do we combine patiently?” ⇢ “When do we attack quickly before defenders recover?” View session via @SportSessionPlanner https://lnk2ssp.com/s/M9raj/i/IoxO/Passing-&-Receiving.html Website: https://www.thesportingresource.co.uk/
