The first section of Unit 2 in the AP Biology curriculum - Cell Structure: Subcellular Components - looks at the many organelles used by cells to carry out the functions they need to survive. This video covers the structure and function of ribosomes, basics of the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi complex, and then takes a quick look at mitochondria, vacuoles, lysosomes, and chloroplasts. These are the most important organelles in cells, though there are many other subcellular components. If you are watching this video to learn more about organelles, you should also watch our next video on section 2.2, which goes into more detail about the functions of the endomembrane system as well as energy-producing organelles like chloroplasts and mitochondria.
