The PATRIOT Missile Defense System (MDS) relies on stable power from 15 kW/400 HZ Advanced Medium Mobile Power Sources (AMMPS), but initial testing revealed structural resonance causing stator weld fractures and failure. To address this, the Integrated Fires Mission Command (IFMC) developed a stiffening and damping kit, requiring validation of its installation and effectiveness. Cintel Inc., an RDI service provider, used the Iris M™ system and Motion Amplification® technology to establish a baseline and compare modified and unmodified generators. The data confirmed the kit’s effectiveness in reducing resonance, with only two sets showing issues due to rotor misalignment, providing critical insights into the solution’s success.
