"Inspired by Tod Browning and my obsession with Grady Stiles, the original lobster boy. Shot by Stuart Page who manually altered exposure (& did so much more) + a wine-glass score by John Gibson. Crab gloves created by sis Suzy. The bubba I made cry was her daughter Roma. Robin Gee w/ giant claw. Match house made by Cookie. Mike as orderly. Journo/writer Colin Hogg as undertaker. Prod Manager Leanne Saunders became prod. Cast Andrew Thurtell, Ashleigh Southam, Melda Hope, Rebekah Davies. Shot mostly out at Kaiaua beach, a derelict house in Ponsonby & Monte Cecilia estate. Kodak & NFU. Played to dead silence at a full St James in front of Abel Ferrara’s The Funeral. Actually one loud solo whoop from writer/ director Jonathan King. Transferred from the 35mm print by the good folk at Vinegar Syndrome as a favour. Thx Joe!" —A.T.
