This lecture explains how to design a cricket-specific conditioning program using the Fitness Training Design Framework and the HIIT conditioning model by Laursen and Buchheit. Through a case study of a 32-year-old club-level fast bowler, the lecture demonstrates how to analyze exercise history and baseline fitness data to identify performance gaps—particularly low aerobic capacity and aerobic conditioning that limit the ability to bowl more than five overs at consistent intensity. The session shows how to set SMART goals, create periodized training blocks, and progressively manipulate training variables such as frequency, intensity, volume, and training method. By sequencing improvements from aerobic capacity to aerobic conditioning and finally toward higher-intensity performance, the program illustrates how structured, evidence-based conditioning can enhance sustained performance in cricket.
