Cricket Need Analysis
This lecture introduces the sports need analysis framework using cricket as the example sport. It explains how game demands and physiological demands can be analyzed to identify the key physical abilities, fitness variables, and testing protocols required for performance improvement. The lecture compares different cricket formats (Test, One Day, and T20) and playing positions, highlighting that fast bowlers experience the greatest physical demands due to higher running distances, repeated high-speed efforts, and shorter work-to-rest ratios. Using this information, the lecture demonstrates how to link game demands to key performance indicators such as VO₂max, maximal aerobic speed, and power output, allowing practitioners to select appropriate fitness tests and design evidence-based training programs for cricketers.
