DeLorean engine sound
Checking the DeLorean vitals after engine reseal. 1. The frequency valve for fuel control pressure should have approximately 35% - 45% duty cycle on a warm engine in closed loop. 2. The FV reads 50% warming up or when the O2 Sensor unplugged. 3. The FV reads 60% with the “Wide Open Throttle” switch pressed 4. When checking the A/F from the tail pipe behind the catalytic converter, the A/F tends to be .5 point lean. (In my experience) 5. It’s best to read A/F from both CO test ports to get a true read and to know if bank 1 and 2 are balanced. 6. It seems that slight idle surge is normal and acceptable on a Jetronic powered DeLoreans? 7. Make sure no significant vacuum leaks are present. (Zero is obviously preferable) 8. Double check vacuum lines for proper placement. Make VERY sure that the coolant vacuum switch works and is plumbed correctly into the Warm Up Regulator and Vacuum Advance. 9. Don’t chase problems related to bad grounds because a slight grounding issue can prohibit the Frequency Valve from working in closed loop. (Simply removing and reinstalling components and grounds can correct pesky issues) Considering that most guys that know(Knew) Jetronic extremely well are retired or deceased, any constructive criticism is welcome from those willing enlighten my errors or inaccuracies. That being said, I’m not sure how well a DeLorean can run smoothly in “Closed Loop” without a modern fuel injection system due to the fact that the separate and primitive “Computers” don’t really communicate. The Idle ECU, Ign ECU, and Lambda ECU tend to take suggestions from each other but it’s still pretty amazing how well they work together considering the time period of design. @ Passion Performance Auto
