I invited Coach Joseph Potts back to the studio for this episode of "Fitness Facts." In this episode, we show, and discuss, numerous exercises and training methods he uses to improve athletes’ strength, power, speed, agility, endurance, and overall athletic performance, while minimizing the risk of injuries. A variety of exercises and training approaches are highlighted including; resistance training exercises, abdominal and core-stability exercises, plyometrics and jumps, change-of-direction and agility drills, sled work, resisted sprints, sprint technique, and examples of contrast/complex training. The reasons why these exercises should be performed, and his various training approaches implemented, are explained. Coach Potts owns and operates TopSpeed Strength & Conditioning, a private sports performance training and physical therapy center in Lenexa, KS. He is also the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Kansas City Current professional women’s soccer team, and Fort Scott Community College Baseball. Previously, he spent several years as the Strength and Speed Development Coach for the Kansas City Royals baseball team. Coach Potts is a Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach through the National Strength & Conditioning Association, and a Corrective Exercise Specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in exercise science from the University of Kansas where he played for the KU football team. Coach Potts trains numerous professional, collegiate, high-school, and youth athletes participating in a variety of sports. He has trained notable athletes such as NFL Pro Bowl wide receiver Tyreek Hill, NBA veteran Nick Collison, European Professional Basketball MVP Kristina Santiago, and MLB 1st round draft picks Riley Pint and Alex Lange.
