This tutorial introduces the redesigned media player panel system in DOTE 2.0, which replaces the fixed primary and secondary video panel setup from version 1.0 with a fully flexible, multi-panel system capable of playing any number of video and audio sources simultaneously. In version 2.0, each media player panel is independent and numbered, and you can open as many as your computer can handle. Each panel can be resized by dragging its edges, repositioned anywhere in the workspace using drag and drop, maximized to fill the screen for presentations, and collapsed down to a minimal footprint when you want to focus on other parts of the interface. Panel controls can be hidden and revealed at will to keep things clean, and any configuration you build can be saved as a custom layout and recalled instantly. The tutorial walks through how each media player panel is connected to your media sources. The LEGO demo project used here has six active media files: one audio recording and five video cameras. In the free version of DOTE only two media files can be activated at once, while the Pro and Institutional editions support the full range. Each panel can be set to one of three viewing modes: follow video cues, which automatically switches camera, pan, and zoom according to your pre-programmed video cues; saved view, which locks the panel to a specific camera position you have defined; and free view, which lets you pan and zoom freely without saving any changes.A particularly useful new feature shown in the tutorial is the ability to make quick edits to video cues directly from the media player panel while in video cue mode. If you pan or zoom to a new position, DOTE enters a temporary state where you can choose to save that view to the previous video cue, discard the change, or cancel. This makes fine-tuning video cues much faster than opening the full editor. The tutorial then demonstrates how to work with multiple panels open at the same time, using the built-in default layouts for two and four simultaneous media players. With two panels you might have one following video cues while the other shows a fixed angle of a different part of the scene. With four panels you can monitor multiple cameras of the same event in parallel, though the tutorial notes that playing many high-resolution files at once places demands on your hardware and is smoothest on machines with a dedicated GPU or a recent Apple silicon processor. Finally, the tutorial shows two example custom layouts saved by the presenter: one with multiple panels arranged to cover different camera angles of the full scene, and a sandwich layout with a video cue panel above, a free view panel below, and the transcript centred between them. Combined with Zen mode, which strips back the interface to give maximum screen space, these configurations make DOTE 2.0 a powerful tool for data sessions, conference presentations, and detailed multimodal analysis. 00:00 Introduction 00:17 What Changed from Version 1.0 00:25 The New Flexible Media Player Panel System 00:36 The Standard Layout and Panel Overview 01:06 Resizing a Media Player Panel 01:39 Moving and Repositioning Panels 02:26 Maximizing a Panel for Presentations 02:43 Hiding and Revealing Panel Controls 03:05 Panel Numbering and Media Sources 03:20 The Media Manager and Active Media Files 03:46 Following Video Cues Mode 04:05 Saved View Mode 05:46 Free View Mode 06:27 Panning and Zooming: Saving Changes to a Video Cue 07:25 Discarding Temporary View Changes 07:52 Quick Video Cue Editing from the Panel 08:12 Default Layouts: Two and Four Media Players 08:22 Using Two Panels for Multi-Angle Viewing 08:46 Using Four Panels Simultaneously 09:14 Performance Considerations for Multiple Panels 09:54 Adding a Panel Manually and Building a Custom Layout 10:34 Saving a Custom Layout 11:33 Example Layout: Multi-Camera Overview 12:22 Example Layout: Sandwich Model with Video Cues 13:03 Zen Mode with Two Media Players 13:50 Outro
