Dragonflies are predatory flying insects belonging to infraorder Anisoptera, within the order Odonata.
They have large, multifaceted eyes, two pairs of strong, transparent wings and elongated bodies, often with iridescent colors.
These creature can be found near freshwater bodies such as ponds, lakes and streams. Although most species are tropical, they can be found globally.
Their lifecycle consists of incomplete metamorphosis (egg, larva, adult). They are voracious predators, eating other flying insects like mosquitoes, flies and even other dragonflies.
Dragonflies are ancient insects and are considered beneficial as they control pest insect population. Habitat loss in wetlands is a major threat to their existence.
