Before becoming the Wrath of God in DC Comics, he was just an ordinary superhero who returned from the dead to fight injustice in the Golden Age comics of the 1940s. Since then, the Spectre has been reinvented more than once and elevated to one of the big powerhouses of the DC Universe, often in detriment of his own stories.
