Finally Starting the Extension Build!

After weeks of digging, mud, rain and groundwork… we’re finally starting to build this extension. In this video we begin the main blockwork on a new extension over in Nottingham. With the footings poured and the concrete subfloor down, it’s finally time to get the first blocks laid and start bringing the walls up. I take you through installing starter packs to tie the new masonry into the existing house, setting out the cavity, installing trays and damp protection, and explaining how weepholes work to drain moisture from the cavity. We also go through insulation spacing, wind posts, and how we build both skins of blockwork together. Jack is also getting more practice on the tools, learning how to spread mortar properly and helping keep the mixes ahead while we get the first courses up. After a long stretch of groundwork and horrible weather, it’s good to finally see the extension starting to take shape. Next up: pushing the walls up to scaffold height and getting everything ready for steels and the roof structure.
