In this video, we demonstrate a simple and effective finger taping technique designed to help protect the metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joint from hyperextension injuries. This type of injury commonly occurs when a finger is forcefully bent backward after being struck by a ball. This self-taping technique limits excessive backward movement of the finger while still allowing functional use of the hand. It provides added support to the joint, helping to reduce strain on the ligaments that stabilise the finger and lowering the risk of further injury during activity. Finger hyperextension injuries are common in ball and contact sports such as basketball, netball, volleyball, football, and goalkeeping, particularly when catching, blocking, or deflecting the ball. Without adequate support, repeated impacts can aggravate ligament injuries and delay recovery. This taping method is: Easy to apply on your own Quick to set up before training or competition Suitable for returning to sport after a finger sprain Helpful as a preventative strategy for at-risk fingers While taping can provide short-term support, it should be used alongside appropriate rehabilitation, strength work, and professional guidance when required. 👍 If you found this video helpful, like and subscribe for more injury prevention and return-to-sport tips.
