First CNC Router Table Cut
https://questionable-engineering.com/project/cnc-router This is the first attempt at actually cutting something on the router I’ve been building for the last several months. There’s still a lot to do before it’s really ready to cut full time (not the least of which is to clear all the crap off the table). I created a simple shape (the letter “C”) in Fusion 360 and generated a tool path with five tabs to route it out. The material is some low-to-medium-quality 3/4" plywood. I’m using a crappy Diablo/Freud 1/4" straight 2-flute router bit at 9000 rpm and 1016 mm/min (120 in/min). It’s doing full-width slotting at 6.35 mm (1/4") depth of cut. The initial rapid descent is slower than maximum because I was riding the max velocity control in LinuxCNC. There's a lot of chatter because although the workpiece is clamped to the sacrificial board (and screwed down in the near corner), that board is not well clamped to the table. I tried to hold it down a bit to see if I could improve that, but I wasn’t willing to get too close to the spinning bit. Sorry about the video angle, I still don’t have a good setup (or clear space) for placing cameras.
