First Touch Flow

New Session: First Touch Flow Created via @SportSessionPlanner Organisation ◍ Area: 10x10m grid (can be adapted to suit age or level) ◍ Players: 7 total ◍ Setup: Two players positioned at each gate, with one gate starting with a single player ◍ Balls supplied to maintain flow and intensity Objective ● The practice develops players’ passing, first touch, and quick decision-making under time and space constraints. ● Players pass to a gate with two players, then move into a new gate with only one player, ensuring constant rotation and scanning. There should never be a gate with three players. ● When receiving, the player’s first touch must remain inside the white box (a smaller coned area), challenging control and awareness. Progressions ⤷ Scoring Challenge: 1 point for every completed pass and 1 point for every controlled first touch inside the white box. ⤷ Tightening Control: After 5 successful first touches within the box, reduce the box size to increase difficulty. Any touch leaving the area = –1 point. The player with the most points after 2 minutes wins the round. ⤷ Directional Touch Rule: First touch can no longer go straight ahead twice in a row, players must vary their control left, right, or centre to improve scanning and body orientation. Teaching the 'Why' (Built into Practice) ◘ Read the Picture ⤷ Encourage scanning before the pass, “Who’s free, and where’s the next gate?” Help players anticipate options rather than react after receiving. ◘ Purpose in the Touch ⤷ Each touch should set up the next action. Ask: “Does your first touch make your pass easier or harder?” to develop intention and control. ◘ Change the Rhythm ⤷ Use pace and variation to replicate match tempo, “When do you play quickly?
