Flat Animals
Hi everybody! Today, we’re going to paint some flat animals. These illustrations are minimalist and highly simplified, nearly abstractions, yet still figurative. The idea is quite similar to the botanical illustrations we did a few weeks ago: rather than following the organic shape of the subjects, we take a more geometric approach by stretching and adjusting the composition so that it fits within the space of the canvas. The goal is for the composition to fill the entire page regardless of the number of its elements. This concept is easier and certainly works better with botanicals, but today we’ll try it with animals and see what happens. I hope this inspires you to create your own flat animal illustrations. As always, keep practicing, and thank you for joining us!
