Freeform Serge

I've mentioned Skam, Warp and Worm Interface producer Freeform, better known to his friends as @simonpyke_studio a few times in past uploads. I haven't kept up with him in probably twenty years, but for a few years, his infectious brand of IDM was a mainstay in my CD player. He always managed to sound naive and whimsical whilst being at the same time deliberate and thoughtful in sequencing and sound design. In a scene that was (and probably still is) terminally, tiresomely self-important and self-absorbed, there was Freeform, mashing genres and moods deftly together with a signature light touch, and more often than not pulling it off without it all seeming like a piss-take. His choices in rhythm and timbre especially were just miles apart from his peers, even when he sounded like he was using the same kit. And sometimes I just wanna patch up something that reminds me of his stuff.
