Session: Gate Hunter Created via @SportSessionPlanner Organisation • Area: 20x20 (adjust to numbers) • Multiple gates (minimum = number of players) • Each gate approx. 1 step wide • All players start with a ball • Players spread across the area. Practice: • Players dribble freely inside the area. • They must identify and move through free gates. • Each successful gate = 1 point. • Players keep their own score. • 1-minute rounds. Key Constraint • A gate can only be used if it is free. • If two players arrive at the same time, it does not count. Progression 1: Score Pressure ⇢ 3–4 rounds of 1 minute. ⇢ Challenge players to beat their previous score each round. ⇢ Improvement becomes the target, not just activity. Progression 2 : Movement Variation Through the gate, players must perform: ⇢ A turn ⇢ A stop-start ⇢ A change of direction Not just pass through. Progression 3: Skill Execution Assign specific actions inside or after the gate: ⇢ Inside/outside cuts ⇢ Drag backs ⇢ Body feints ⇢ This links technique to decision-making. Gamified Scoring ● 1 point per gate ● Bonus for consecutive gates without losing control ● Bonus for visible change of speed Teaching the “Why” Read the Picture ↳ “Where is the next free gate?” ↳ “When do you change direction?” If they are looking down, they are already late. Purpose in the Action ↳ “Are you dribbling… or travelling to space?” Every touch should move them toward the next decision. Change the Rhythm ↳ “When do you slow to see?” ↳ “When do you accelerate to go?” Speed comes after recognition.
