THE SERVICE CALL WAS FOR AN "OVERCRANK" ALARM "ERROR CODE 1100" SO THAT'S WHAT I LIMITED THE JOB TO. I DON'T ADD ON EXTRA COSTS BY PERFORMING MORE THAN THAT REQUESTED. I WILL HOWEVER PROVIDE A WRITTEN SUMMARY WITH A LIST OF ITEMS WHICH SHOULD BE PERFORMED. IF A; HUSBAND, SON, BROTHER, UNCLE, COUSIN CAN PERFORM THE TASK - THAT'S FINE WITH ME. JUST STAY SAFE AND LEAVE THE QUESTIONABLE/UNCERTAIN TASKS TO SOMEONE WHO'S QUALIFIED. YOU'RE NOT SAVING MONEY IF SOMEONE GETS HURT. GENERAC SEEMS TO CHANGE CONSTANTLY. IN THE BEGINING THEY WOULDN'T EVEN TALK TO ME. THEN THEY BECAME MORE FRIENDLY AND EVENTUALLY HELPED ME TO GET PARTS. THEN, ALL OF A SUDDEN, I WASN'T ABLE TO BUY PARTS EVEN FROM SITES I ONCE PURCHASED FROM. PROPRIETARY SERVICE SEEMS TO BE IN EFFECT. THIS TASK HAD A FAIRLY HIGH DIFFICULTY RATING. REMOVING THE SMALL PARTS WITHOUT LOSING ANY. KEEPING PARTS AND DEBRIS OUT OF PLACES THEY SHOULDN'T BE - AND REMOVING A PART THAT HAD NO INTENTION OF LEAVING ITS MOUNT. THERE'S A ONE INCH HUB THAT SLIPS OVER A SLEEVE CONTAINING TWO "O" RINGS AND I USE THE TERM "SLIPS" EXTREMELY LOOSELY. THERE ARE FOUR (4) RUBBER GROMMETS AROUND THE TW0 (2) SCREWS HOLDING THE BASE OF THE AIR BOX. ONE UNDER THE HEAD OF THE SCREW AND ONE UNDER THE BASE OF THE FOOT ON THE AIR BOX. YOU DON'T WANT TO LOSE THESE. THEY KEEP THE VIBRATION FROM BREAKING THE FEET OFF THE AIR BOX AND THEY HOLD THE AIR BOX AT THE PROPER HEIGHT TO SECURE THE AIR BOX OPENING AROUND THE THROTTLE BODY'S SEAL. I COVER THE OPENING, CREATED BY THE REMOVAL OF THE HOSE RUNNING FROM THE AIR BOX TO THE ENGINE'S TOP, WITH A PIECE OF CLOTH - KEEPING THE TINY WASHERS FROM RUINING YOUR DAY. I ENDED UP HEATING THE HUB IN HOPES OF EXPANDING IT AND THAWING THE GRIP WHICH THE SLEEVE HELD. ALL WHILE TRYING TO AVOID DAMAGING THE "O" RINGS. AN HOURS LONG BATTLE IN FRIGID TEMPERATURES. YOU DONT WANT TO PRY ON THESE METAL PARTS AND RISK DAMAGE TO PARTS YOU DON'T HAVE. I MENTIONED BEING THERE ABOUT HALF A DAY. I LATER CALCULATED THE TIME TO HAVE BEEN SEVEN HOURS, HAVING WORKED RIGHT THROUGH LUNCH. (WHERE DOES THE TIME GO?) AS YOU CAN SEE BY THE UNSCORCHED LABEL ON THE HUB, IT FINALLY CAME FREE. I TYWRAP THE "STEPPER MOTOR" CABLE DUE TO HOT AND MOVING PARTS BUT ALSO BECAUSE I HAD ONE SERVICE CALL WHERE THE OWNER KNOCKED THE CONNECTOR OFF THE CONTROLLER WHILE CHARGING THE BATTERY. (DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY CABLES AND PLACED CHARGER CABLES ON TOP OF THE BATTERY POSTS - KNOCKING THE "STEPPER MOTOR" CONNECTOR OFF THE CONTROLLER.) SO I TYWRAP THE CONNECTOR CABLE HIGH ABOVE THE ITEMS IN THE BASE OF THE GENERATOR. THE NAPA OIL FILTER MUST NOT BE A 1349 AS I SAW 7145 ON THE LABEL WHEN I FINALLY HAD A CHANCE TO GET BACK ON THE GROUND. (PRETTY SURE NAPA WOULD KNOW OR BE ABLE TO LOOK IT UP,) I ALSO BELIEVE THAT THE FILTER NUMBER WAS ON THAT WHITE TAPE NEAR THE CONTROLLER. OIL 30W ALSO WRITTEN. I ONLY USE THE GENERAC OIL FILTERS BUT I HAVE SEEN THE NAPA FILTERS USED. AS SOON AS THE GENERATOR IS BROKEN IN I PERFORM AN OIL CHANGE USING MOBIL 1 SYNTHETIC OIL 5W-30. (GENERAC NOW RECOMMENDS GENERAC SYNTHETIC 5W-20. GO FIGURE.) I DON'T RUN FLEXIBLE METAL CONDUIT OUTDOORS BUT I WAS SURPRISED THAT IT HADN'T RUSTED, AFTER TEN YEARS, ON THIS INSTALLATION. THE CONNECTOR ISN'T WATER RESISTANT EITHER. THIS GENERATOR SUNK INTO THE GROUND A LITTLE AND SHOULD BE RAISED BACK OUT. THEN LEVELED ONCE AGAIN. THE BATTERY TERMINALS AND POSTS SHOULD BE CLEANED. ANTI-OX APPLIED. THE TOP OF THE AIR BOX COULD BE REPLACED. I NOTICED THAT THE LED's ON THE END OF THE UNIT WERE NOT LIT. PERHAPS THE OWNERS HAD THEM DISCONNECTED. I DON'T KNOW. THE BACK OF THE CIRCUIT BREAKER BOX WAS BROKEN AND THE TAB TO THE DOOR WAS MISSING. I PERFORMED THE REPAIR I WAS CALLED TO DO. THE GENERATOR WILL FUNCTION PROPERLY AGAIN. THERE IS A "GENERAC 11 KW OVERCRANK ERROR CODE 1100 PART 3" WHICH GIVES A GLANCE AT THE REMOVED THROTTLE BODY AND STEPPER MOTOR. SIDE NOTE: THE CONTROLLER IS POWERED BY TWO SOURCES. THE BATTERY TRICKLE CHARGER AND THE BATTERY ITSELF. IF "T1" 120 VAC IS LOST = THE INTERNAL BATTERY CHARGER WILL NOT WORK. (CHARGER MISSING AC) THE CONTROLLER WILL CONTINUE TO FUNCTION UNTIL THE BATTERY IS DEAD, WHICH IS WHY AN EARLIER OWNER CHARGED HIS BATTERY AFTER A MINI EXCAVATOR TOOK OUT HIS "T1" ALONG WITH ALL THE REST OF THE WIRING BETWEEN THE TRANSFER SWITCH AND THE GENERATOR. YOU CAN GET A "CHARGER MISSING AC" FAULT CODE EVEN THOUGH THE CHARGER IS FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. IF THE BATTERY FALLS BELOW 12.5 VDC THE CONTROLLER WILL BELIEVE THAT THE BUILT IN TRICKLE CHARGER HAS FAILED DUE TO POWER LOSS BECAUSE IT CHARGES THE BATTERY TO A HIGHER VOLTAGE.
