Half Double Crochet (HDC)
Welcome back to the crochet course chaos corner. 🧶 In this video, we’re learning the Half Double Crochet stitch (hdc), which is basically the middle child between single crochet and double crochet. Faster than single crochet, shorter than double crochet, and honestly one of the nicest stitches for wearables, blankets, bags, and pretty much everything else. We’ll be going through: • how to start your foundation chain • your chain 2 turning chain • where to insert your hook • how to work your half double crochet into the THIRD chain from the hook • how to identify your stitches • working second rows • and how to avoid accidentally adding or deleting stitches into the crochet void. Half double crochet works up pretty quickly while still creating a solid fabric that isn’t overly stiff or full of giant holes, which makes it a really nice balance stitch if you want projects that work up faster without inhaling your entire yarn stash in one sitting. As we continue through the course, we’ll keep building on these basics so you get comfortable reading your stitches, understanding turning chains, and figuring out where your hook is supposed to go before your project starts looking like abstract yarn linguistics. Coming up next: • Double Crochet (dc) • Treble Crochet (tr) And as always, if I miss something, explain something badly, accidentally say the wrong thing, or if you have any questions whatsoever, feel free to drop a comment or send me a message. Crochet can look confusing at first, but eventually your hands just start speaking fluent yarn spaghetti.
