Hanging Root Pouch
I hated my dutch buckets, always springing leaks and a pain to clean and replant, but I loved the tomatoes that taste homegrown. One thing that Bobby (mhpgardener) said that always bugged me was if something is working, don't change it. If he had listened to his own advice, he never would have tried a dutch bucket. I see several advantages in this system. No leaking grommets, just a bottom drain. I am able to move or remove a plant without disrupting the system. Because of air pruning, I can grow full size plants with much less media. There is no water for roots to continually circle around the bottom. Nutrients run 24/7 but you can't over-water. It takes a smaller pump to trickle feed the nutrients. There is no lag or overlap when you make a change in your rez., since you don't have water sitting in each bucket. I can think of many others. I think the form I use will evolve, but I hope some of you will give this concept try.
