Hebrews- Study 2-Ch 1:Vs3
Hebrews Study 2 Key Verse Hebrews 12:2 Looking onto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith; who, for the joy that was sat down before him endured the cross, despising the shame, sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Personal commitment: Read a chapter each day from Leviticus and Hebrews Many encouragements and exhortations of perseverance: Hold Fast/Consider Jesus (Hebrews 3:1-6): Focus on Jesus as the superior apostle and high priest. Draw Near (Hebrews 4:14-16):Approach the throne of grace with confidence, knowing Jesus sympathizes with weaknesses. Hold Fast to Hope (Hebrews 10:19-25): Encourage one another and do not neglect meeting together. Run with Perseverance (Hebrews 12:1-2): Fix eyes on Jesus, throwing off sin and hindrances. Endure Discipline (Hebrews 12:28): Be thankful and worship God, receiving the unshakable kingdom. Christs Preeminence mentions that He is: Better 11 times Superior 4 times Greater 7 times Chapter 1 Verse 3 “brightness” of His (God the Fathers) “glory”-the Greek rendering of brightness gives us similar words like radiance, splendor, effulgence, dazzling, off-shooting light like the sun. For the word “glory” Read Matthew 17:1-8 and John 17:5 The express image- the Greek is charakter from where we derive the word character. This word gives a picture of engraving and a machine stamped exact duplicate. Reference John 14:9-Jesus to Phillip if you have seen me you have “seen” (to state at and discern with understanding) the Father read also Colossians 1:15 “Upholds” all things by the “word” of his “power”- Read John 1:1-3, 2 Peter 3:5 and Colossians 1:13-17 (focus on verse 17) KJV “consists” means to place and stand or hold together. Christ is the cosmic cohesive and He does this Sovereignly by the volition of His mind. This means that everything is in order and in its place and it shows He lives outside of time, space and matter that He created and He orders all things to be and to happen. This is called Providence. We see it here at His transfiguration in Luke 9:29-35 When he had made “Purged” our sins- (katharismon) means a washing off or ablution which was a Jewish ritual of taking water and pouring it out during the feast as a sign of washing the sins of the nation of Israel away.(see John 7:37-39 and explain) He “sat down”- Read Hebrews 10:11-14 comparing the Old Testament Priest to the Perfect High Priest of our Faith. At the “right hand”- Read Exodus 15:6, Psalm 118:16 Isaiah 41:10 Of the “majesty on high” Read Isaiah 14:13-14 where Satan aspired to attain As he became so much better and far “superior to the angels” and inherited an excellent name (title) Read Philippians 2:9-11 Now may the God of peace, who brought up from the dead the great Shepherd of the sheep through the blood of the eternal covenant, that is, Jesus our Lord, equip you in every good thing to do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever and ever.
