Feathers are light, but how light are they? There must be a way to find out! Please subscribe to continue learning what makes life AWESOME: https://BioBush.tv/subscribe It's very hard to calculate feather density. Feathers are made of keratin with air bubbles inside, and they are often coated in oil. As we investigate, we can thankfully rely on the amazing people who have already come up with ways to measure feather density. The scientific angle comes from Tamrat Tesfaye and colleagues found a couple of chemicals to submerge feathers and measure their density. And there is also a commercial standard for measuring feather fluffiness that gives us insight into just how light and airy feathers can be. I hope this teaches you something new about feathers!
