The Model 37 was introduced in 1937 by the Ithaca Gun Company. It was based on the Remington Model 17, a design by John Browning. Ithaca made modifications to simplify and reduce production costs. Pump-action with a tubular magazine under the barrel. Unique bottom ejection/loading port, which prevents shells from interfering with the shooter's line of sight. Available in 12, 16, 20, and 28 gauge. Magazine capacity 4, 5, or 7 rounds used by the U.S. military during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Model 37 is the longest production run for a pump-action shotgun, surpassing even the Winchester Model 12. The one-millionth Model 37 was produced in 1968, and over 2 million units have been made as of 2003. Production resumed in Upper Sandusky, Ohio, after a brief pause in 2005
