How to get started supporting IBS

Did you know mental health and physical health are linked? Not just mental health but thoughts and beliefs can also influence our health. That’s mind-blowing! April 2025 is both Stress Awareness Month and IBS Awareness month and these areas are both my specialisms when supporting clients! Although I see clients for many issues, I love supporting IBS because it can really affect people’s quality of life. I trained in hypnotherapy primarily to support IBS clients with gut-directed hypnosis (though people see me for other things too including supporting stress, fears, worries, behaviours and habits). Stress, whether chronic or acute, can impact health. Diet, lifestyle and or hypnotherapy can be supportive. Many of my clients notice a relationship between stress and IBS flair ups. If you experience digestive issues that impact your life, firstly see your GP to get it checked. If it is IBS #hypnotherapy #digestivehealth #ibs #functionalmedicine , you can support this yourself with diet and lifestyle. Start by keeping a food and mood diary to spot any patterns. Try to limit processed foods, sweeteners, vegetable oils and stimulants like caffeine and alcohol. This can be a great start! To support your IBS through the nervous system, consider bringing in some relaxation practices if you don’t already do so. This could be breath work, yoga, meditation or walking in nature.
