Older applications used to run off Java 6, including programs like Adobe Illustrator CS5 and other Adobe software. With the recent upgrade to Mac OS Sierra, Java 8 is now implemented and used by default. But that means your older application no longer have the legacy Java 6 plugin. This means you may have seen the message, "you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime".
There is a quick remedy for that in a download available from Apple and it is a relatively quick and easy install. This will work separate from Java 8, it does not replace it.
