Use the JMP Excel Import Wizard to import Excel data into JMP. Preview, import, and format one or more worksheets. JMP remembers your previous Excel Import Wizard Settings. JMP usually defaults to the Excel Import Wizard. You can check that in JMP under Preferences, Third Party Data.
By default, JMP treats columns of all numeric values as continuous and columns that contain any character values as nominal. JMP treats missing values are treated as character data, so if there are any missing values in a numeric column, JMP will treat that whole column as character. So, after importing Excel data to JMP, check the modeling types of the columns and change them if needed.
