Check out this skiing data from Big Sky Montana! With only a handful of wearable sensors, Stacy Imler, Jessica Isaacs, Ph.D., P.E. , and I were able to reproduce body kinematics as our subject made his way down the mountain. As you can imagine, this sort of data is extremely difficult to collect in a lab. Setting up for this "in the wild" data collection takes less than 10 minutes and requires no other equipment besides the wearable sensors and a cell phone. This kind of data could be used to quantify skiing techniques/performance including understanding muscle forces/fatigue. In the coming months, we'll be combing through this data and hope to publish what we find.
