Integrator Series Basic Training : 2b. IP Addresses and DHCP

Symetrix DSPs ethernet ports default to dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP). When making a direct Ethernet connection for the first time, the programming PC should also be set to DHCP to enable communication. When a the DSP is connected to a managed switch or network it will automatically search for a DHCP server in order to obtain an IP address. The DHCP server maintains a table of the addresses it has available and which have already been assigned. When the DSP requests an IP address from the DHCP server, it will choose an available address and assign it to the device. Afterwards, the table will be updated and that address will not be available to any other network component.
