Intervals of Increase and Decrease. Find the first derivative test. We learn how to find the x-coordinates of all critical points, find all discontinuities, and find the open intervals where the function is increasing and decreasing for various examples. We first determine where the function is discontinuous. We then take the derivative of the function to find its critical points.
