Invinco (Arcade) 1979
Invinco is a fixed-shooter arcade game released by Sega (and its American partner Gremlin Industries) in November 1979. Often described as a "Space Invaders" clone, it distinguished itself with unique enemy behaviors and gameplay mechanics. Unlike typical invaders of the era, the enemies in Invinco! feature distinct properties based on their row: -Layered Toughness: Aliens in the top row require three hits to destroy.Stealth: One row of enemies constantly blinks in and out of view, making them difficult to target. -Explosive Reactions: Another row contains aliens that turn into exploding stars/bombs when hit, taking out surrounding enemies to help clear the screen. -Movement: Some enemies "roll" or have smaller hitboxes, increasing the difficulty of a clean shot. -Space Chariots: After clearing a wave, players face "space chariots" (or sky chariots) that zig-zag down the screen while firing. It was frequently released in "Dual" cabinets alongside other Sega games like Deep Scan or Head On 2, allowing players to choose between two different games in one machine.
