Inward K - Beatbox Tutorial

Become a fan! http://www.facebook.com/FTBBX Transcript: In this video I’m gonna teach you how to do the inward K. By now you probably know the basic rimshot. While that’s a great enough sound by itself, most beatboxers do the inward K instead. This is for a few reasons. For one, it sounds much better. For two, it’s a lot more versatile when being used in fast beats. And for three, most importantly, we can take a breath while we do it. This makes this one of the most important sounds to use before you can really start focusing on breath control, but that in itself is a subject for a later video. The inward K can sometimes be a little troublesome to learn because you’re having to learn an entirely new technique, and that is how to make a sound inwards. Most people don’t really practice that in their day to day lives! It’s still not a really hard sound to learn and is one of the easiest inward sounds to learn, but you may feel a little uncomfortable in your throat. It may tickle, it may feel a bit sore, just keep at it, practice, and rest assured that everybody goes through the same thing. To make the sound you have to put the tongue on the top of your mouth like this. Easy enough. If you try to take air into your lungs like this by expanding them, you can’t. Your tongue is blocking the flow. So what you have to do is snap your tongue away from the side of your mouth - I use the left side - and you get this kind of KSHH KSHH KSHH sound. If all you’re getting is “shh shh shh” you’re not applying enough pressure. If you’re getting a “sound like donald duck being strangled” you’re not snapping your tongue away. What you should get is a nice crisp K K K followed by a slight “shh shh” as you bring the air into your lungs, so: Once you know this sound you can trade it out for the standard rimshot in any beat, and this will allow you to do the beat essentially forever if you get the breath control right.
