Jesus’ baptism marked the beginning of His public ministry and served as a divine confirmation of His identity as the Son of God. According to the Gospel accounts (Matthew 3:13–17; Mark 1:9–11; Luke 3:21–22; John 1:29–34), Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan River to be baptized by John the Baptist. Though John initially hesitated, saying, “I need to be baptized by you” (Matthew 3:14), Jesus insisted, explaining that it was necessary “to fulfill all righteousness” (Matthew 3:15). After Jesus was baptized, He came up out of the water, and the heavens opened. The Spirit of God descended like a dove and rested upon Him. Then a voice from heaven declared, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased” (Matthew 3:17). This event symbolized: Jesus’ obedience to God’s will. God’s public approval of Jesus as His Son. The anointing of the Holy Spirit, equipping Jesus for His ministry (Acts 10:38). 📖 References: Matthew 3:13–17; Mark 1:9–11; Luke 3:21–22; John 1:29–34; Acts 10:38.
