Jesus challenges the disciples about what they believe. They clearly don't yet understand the implications of all they have seen and heard, their questions of Him make that abundantly clear. (Remember the Spirit hasn't been given yet, so cut them a little slack.) He challenges them and us with the statement, I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. What they would have known is that He is saying He is replacing three things Jewish people accepted in those roles. What He is also saying is that He is the only way to the Father. We have to be clear about that for the sake of the world.
