John 5:38--6:15
In the first part of this chapter we spoke of the triune Godhead, and in this lesson we’ll learn more about it. Jesus very boldly yet, somewhat subtilty, used the sacred “I am” to identify himself as God. However, the rabbis didn’t like any inference to the sacred name, so they hated Jesus for what he said, and how claimed to be a deity. We’re going to find out throughout this Gospel of John that Christ used the sacred “I am” many times to get his point across as to who he really was. I’ll just mention a few passages with regard to “I am” that Jesus used to identify himself: I am the door, the light, the good shepherd, the bread of life, before Abraham was, I am, I am the resurrection, and there are many more references to "I am." There was a great purpose and meaning when JC used the “I am” to identify himself. Earlier in this chapter it is quite clear who he was. He was establishing the fact that he was the God of the OT.
