Kate Mara began her acting career in her hometown of Bedford, New York. She debuted on television in the series Law & Order in a 1997 episode and moved on when she made her first film, Random Hearts, in 1999. Her most notable performances include, among other works, Brokeback Mountain, awarded by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of the United States, playing the daughter of Heath Ledger's character, and the Fox television series 24, playing systems analyst Shari Rothenberg.
