Kien Supiese
Kien Supiese is a Ladino mystical counting hymn preserved in the liturgical tradition of the Karakaş branch of the Dönmeh community, whose origins go back to the followers of Sabbatai Zevi in the 17th century. The song counts from 1 to 26, with each number representing a symbolic element from Jewish tradition and Kabbalistic thought. The sequence culminates in 26, the numerical value of the divine name YHWH (Şem de la Avaya). Originally sung in Ladino (Judeo-Spanish), the hymn combines biblical references, Sephardic devotional style, and mystical symbolism. Its cumulative structure reveals a new spiritual idea with each number until the final declaration of the divine name. This recording presents a modern musical interpretation inspired by traditional Sephardic Mediterranean music, with Ladino vocal style and Middle Eastern melodic ornamentation. #KienSupiese #Ladino #SephardicMusic #JewishMysticism #Sabbateanism #Donmeh #Karakaş
