Killer7 Version Differences Guide: https://www.speedrun.com/Killer7/guide/vrviv Killer7 Version Differences Playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLWiGDBCbRlC0BwIxZgmWSbDU3qGSPhMai The PS2 version of Killer7 is really something to behold; I once described it as a “wonderfully surreal and comically inferior version of the game,” and I stand by that description today. It really isn’t feasible to record 100% of the differences in the PS2 version; I’d be going almost room-by-room to show off every minor difference when the core point of “the PS2 version is weird” can be delivered much more succinctly. Thus, this video is more of a broad overview of major differences and other notable quirks. There are two sections: the first section covers gameplay differences (aside from the opening), and the second section (starting at the Chapter Select) covers aesthetic differences. I have already released a handful of separate videos covering some specific PS2 differences, and those can be found at the bottom of this description. I used the North American GCN and PS2 versions for this comparison; every regional difference still applies to the PS2 version unless otherwise stated. 1. Intro - 0:00 The PS2 version has a few more logos and also lacks the “Licensed by Nintendo” bit, obviously. 2. General - 1:37 A short clip of basic gameplay. The camera in the PS2 version is much further back, and turning around causes a hard cut in the PS2 version rather than swinging around like in the GCN version. A red tint also appear on-screen at junctions. Load times are notably longer, as well. 3. Lock-on - 3:58 Lock-on seems to act differently. I don’t fully know how to describe it, but it seems more sensitive. In this video, I can somehow lock-on to the Micro despite not being able to see it. 4. Enemy Spawning 1 - 4:32 Enemies materialize much more quickly. As a result, you can’t actually walk past these enemies here without getting hit. 5. Enemy Spawning 2 - 5:35 Some enemies have different spawn points or just outright don’t spawn at all. In this area, the first Phantom doesn’t spawn, and the second Phantom spawns only after the Laser is dead. 6. Blood - 7:13 This one is a bit subtler; look at the blood count. In the GCN version, you still collect blood even when you’re switching to a different persona. In the PS2 version, you don’t collect blood while transforming. 7. Chapter Select - 8:25 Here’s where the aesthetic differences begin. I’m showing off the chapter select mainly because it highlights the terrible character models. 8. Angel Fight - 10:49 9. Sunset 1 Ending - 11:29 If you skip the final cutscenes of Angel, Sunset 1, and Hopper7, the “[Chapter] Complete” prompt does not appear. I only show the ending of Sunset 1 in this video. 10. Gateman - 12:17 The Gatekeeper isn’t as obscured, for some reason. 11. Gate Smile - 12:58 If you reload a Gate Smile room, the game will re-materialize the Smile despite it already being visibly spawned (but still invisible). 12. Invisibility - 14:07 There’s a slight pause whenever Kevin’s invisibility wears off. 13. Duplicator - 15:21 Duplicators only appear when you’re really close to them. 14. Alter Ego Ending - 16:23 There are missing assets in certain areas. In this room, there are fewer tables to the side. 15. Handsome Men - 17:27 This is possibly my favorite thing in the PS2 version. It’s almost comical how much worse this section runs. 16. Lion - 21:21 The sound design is odd in the PS2 version. Certain sound effects are different, the voice mix is different, and audio glitches are more prone to happen. In this scene, there is music in the final hallway with Matsuken despite it being silent in the GCN version. One day, I might write up another document with a room-by-room breakdown, but for now, I believe this video shows you with more-than-enough examples that PS2 Killer7 is a truly bizarre beast. ***** Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/adrianvg/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/AdrianVG1_
