Released in 1980, screened at the American Film Festival (now Sundance) and WGBH TV, this historically important film provides an in-depth and sometimes shocking look at four prisons in Massachusetts and the inmates who live there. Starting at the state's maximum security prison, then the medium security, the women's prison and then a pre-release center, the film explores whether or not these inmates, most of whom will rejoin society, are getting anything out of the experience--or just killing time. A film by Ellen Boyce and Sam Kauffmann.
