Knee Rotation Mobility
In this video I am demonstrating how to work on knee rotational mobility in sitting. This is great for restoring motion of the knee to allow for normal mechanics with movement. Instructions: 1) Sit on the edge of a chair with the knee bent to 90 degrees and your ankle stacked directly under the knee. Place a towel or paper plate under your foot. 2) Place your hands on the top of the thigh just above the knee cap to stabilize the thigh. 3) Gently and slowly rotate your foot outwards like a windshield wiper. Make sure that your thigh does not move at all. Try to keep your foot flat on the floor if possible. 4) Then gently and slowly rotate your foot inwards like a windshield wiper. Make sure that your thigh does not move at all. Try to keep your foot flat on the floor if possible. 5) Hold each end of the motion for a brief moment. Go slow and controlled. Repeat exercise as prescribed by your physical therapist. Tips: -The motion should only be coming from the knee. You should not see any motion at the thigh and the ankle should stay neutral. -Go slow and gentle with this. There should be minimal pain. If you experience clicking/popping stop and speak to your therapist.
